Crow looks into the tall pitcher in the garden.

One hot day, Crow was very thirsty.

He found a tall pitcher in the garden.

There was a little water at the bottom, but Crow could not reach it.

01

Crow pauses beside the pitcher.

He put his beak in. The water was still too far down.

He tried again. Still he could not drink.

Then Crow sat still and thought.

02

Crow lifts a pebble beside the pitcher, with more pebbles on the ground.

He picked up a pebble and dropped it into the pitcher.

He dropped in another pebble.

Then another, and another.

Little by little, the water rose.

03

Crow drinks from the water near the top of the pitcher.

At last Crow could drink.

He drank until he was not thirsty any more.

And that is the moral of our story: little by little does the trick.

If something is hard, stop and think. Then try, one small step at a time.
