A parent offers a tied bundle of sticks to three children.

A parent lived with three children.

The children often argued with one another.

One day the parent brought a bundle of sticks.

“Try to break this bundle,” said the parent.

01

A child holds the unbroken bundle while the parent watches.

The first child tried. The bundle would not break.

The second child tried. It still would not break.

The third child tried. The sticks stayed together.

02

The three children look at the separate broken sticks.

Then the parent untied the bundle.

Each child took one stick.

Each stick broke easily.

“See,” said the parent. “Together you are strong.”

03

The parent and three children stand close together in their cottage.

And that is the moral of our story: when we stay together, we are strong.

Share the work. Be kind. Stay together.
